I agree with Ian - good start to the season and was impressed with the attitude of the lads during and after the game that can only improve the team spirit! Yes shame we didnt win but if everyone is disappointed after drawing away from home - then its a good sign! Few things to improve on but lots of positives to take from the game. Lets keep it going against Bow Street!

Well done Boys! great result for 1st away match.....fitnees is the key at that level boys....you lads have as much skill as any other side....keep ultra fit and stick together even through the bad patches and you can create a very good side in Dolgellau. Good luck this season to all the players and the excellent new management team in place and also to the commitee for their tiremess work for the club. All the best boys. Mark R

Awards 2009/10
Just like to say Congratulations to everyone who won Awards on saturday, David Edwards who, to be perfectly honest, carried us at times! Well done Dave, Deserve your 3 awards. Well done to Iwan on his Young Player of the year Award, I personally felt it should have gone to Stephen Parry after his appearance in our last game of the season. And Congratulations to the Walrus Ashley Hills on his 2nd Team player of the year, Congratulations to the reserve team on a very successful season and gaining promotion to the 1st Division, But most of all I`d like to say Congratulations to A Mr. Bob Gunton on his Clubman of the year, I think he did every job going at the club at some stage in the season, even a masseur for the first team!!! And I mustn`t forget ALL the junior teams on their successes, WELL DONE!

Academy Football
The Bala Academy has had a brilliant first season and its been in part down to the support and encouragment of Dolgellau based players and parents. We are a regional Academy and much more than an offshoot of Bala Town FC. We hope that the Dolgellau based players are returning to you with better knowledge and skills on a weekly basis. The Academy Under 16 Team won the International Amsterdam Youth Cup over the Whitsun weekend and the side featured Joe Ephraim , Will Humphreys and John Evans , all of whom featured well for the side which became the first to do the Double of Champions and fair play winners in the prestige tournament. The Under 12`s reached the Northern Academy Cup Final and I hope that we will develope and maintain the link over future years. Every year 18 lads will graduate and only the very best will go to play professionally or at Welsh Prem level . But all will return to their clubs as great trainers and knowledgable players. We hope that the Academy improves the standard of football for ALL the clubs in our area. Academy trials for 2010/11 are underway at present , there are several Dolgellau lads attending . However there is still time to try out. Players are welcome to attend at Ysgol Berwyn , Bala on Monday 5th July and Monday 12th July. Under 11 and 12 at 6pm. Under 14 and 16 at 7-30 pm. All the best to Dolgellau in 2010/11 and if we can help we will. Trevor Green Academy Administrator Bala Town.

Not meant in that way . The idea of the Academy is to improve standards everywhere , the idea of the post was to say thanks.
Trevor Green
04 / 07 / 2010
We will never agree on this one, therefore this will be my final comment on the subject! The FAW has forced the clubs to set up Academies, to provide a feeder for the LOW clubs, nothing to do with improving the standards of the area junior clubs. If this were the aim they would provide greater financial, and other, support for coach development at grass roots level.
Editor
04 / 07 / 2010
Advert allowed, but spare us the comments that this has anything to do with attempting to improve the standards at Dolgellau, please! You are right! with an attitude like that the standards at Dolgellau will never improve. Thank you Bala Town Academy, My son has enjoyed the experience.

07 / 07 / 2010
You missed my point - it was about why the Academies were set up and not about the experience it provides. The experience you refer to should be what is received here, but the resources are directed towards LOW clubs. Disappointed, and confused, that you think that wanting more for my home club is an attitude that will not improve it`s standards!
Editor
07 / 07 / 2010
Must also point out a fact - the standards at Dolgellau have improved at junior and senior level. Another fact, the Academies coach the better players, the clubs develop ALL the players. By the way, should not let all this detract from the fact that a) your son was selected, and, b) your son had an enjoyable experience and, finally, c) Mr Green is obvioulsy doing a good job
Editor
08 / 07 / 2010
Agree with the Editor on this one, What the LOW Clubs (ie Bala) are basically doing is hand picking our best players and when they turn 16 they try and sign them for Bala Town FC, how can this improve Dolgellau AAFC???? It is Dolgellau`s Coaches that have spent time with the players and nurtured their talent every step of the way, and except for a select few who remain loyal the rest will leave, So I ask again, How does it benefit Dolgellau??? If every player stayed imagine the team Dol would have in the future, I think survival in the Spar Mid Wales League would not be a problem!! When the reality is the players who leave highly unlikely to ever play for Bala 1st team, only their reserves who actually play in a lower league than us and can NOT get promoted.
Lee Riches
08 / 07 / 2010
so if dolgellau had a young player who wanted to develop his football by playing with the best local players, you would not support this?by playing compedative games against other academies, you would not support this? giveing the young player an oppertunity to get into the north wales development squad. Without academy football the cream will not develop or have oppertumities to compete. All junior football clubs do fantastic work to develop players to a certain level to get the necesarry competition required the player must play at a diffrent standard that junior football cannot provide. So your junior coaches should be recomending players to attend academy trials, its not the coaches or the towns that miss out its the players.

10 / 07 / 2010
It is a difficult balance between what is right for the individual and what is right for all the players and the club. Players ARE nominated by our coaches, our club provides support wherever and whenever needed - ask the coaches at the Academies. Our aim is to improve the standards of ALL our local players to a level consistent with the Academies. Players also develop at different ages, those in the academy now may be replaced by others in the future, the clubs not the academies having to manage the disappointment.
Editor
11 / 07 / 2010
Maybe if players stayed and helped Dolgellau get promoted as high as possible then Dolgellau would be in a position where players could play at a higher level with Dol, but the way it is now clubs like Dolgellau will never be in that position, players will ultimately do what is best for them and that is their right, but Mr. Green was implying that it benefits Dol AAFC aswell, which I`m afraid is only true if the players choose to play for Dolgellau, there`s some cracking young players at our club that have come through the junior football in Dolgellau and there`s still talent coming through now, I hope they play for Dolgellau AAFC when they`re old enough and not go to clubs who play the same level as us, why not stay at your homeclub until a bigger club comes in where they`d be playing first team football, I`m not going to get drawn into an argument about it as every player has a right to do whatever they want at the end of the day and if they want to go then that`s it, nobody can hold it against them, they must do what they want.
Lee Riches
12 / 07 / 2010
If the players didn`t go to these academy`s to develop their football, how much would you actually want them to play for the mens team at 16+?
-
23 / 07 / 2010
Not sure what point you are making. Will respond to this one - the club started the Reserves to enable the progression of the Under 16s into the First team (obviously, could also be fast-tracked). The introduction of the juniors into senior soccer (at higher levels) was occurring a LONG time before the academies!!
Editor
24 / 07 / 2010
All youngsters coming through the club have had the opportunities if good enough. Rob Evans, Ryan Thomas Darryn Jones Gareth Hughes and David Edwards recently went straight into 1st team at 16 when I was manager as would Iwan if he had stayed. Prior to that I took over quite an old team and brought through the likes of Jones-Morris, Sion Lloyd, Gareth Lloyd, Tom Evans etc. Age has never been a factor. If you are good enough at 16, in my mind you played. If they were not quite ready the reserve team was an option. Not sure how the Academies work but could they not play weekday games (they all have floodlights) and play for their clubs on Saturdays?

The u11s finished their llyn Eifionydd season 2night at Pwllheli, needing a win to finish as top performers for this season but in the end Pwllheli ran out 3-0 winners. This has been a very successful season for the team, in total out of 22 games the lads have won 16,drawn 3 and lost 3. All the squad deserve praise for their efforts and each and every one of them have played their part along the way,the season isn`t quiet over,we have a tournament at Caernarfon on Saturday and one at Bow St on the 10th July and then the lads can have a deserved rest. I would also like to thank my assistant Richard and all the parents who have helped out in anyway this season and to the lads who have given their time to Ref games during our home matches. Once again thanks lads for your efforts and lets try and push on again next year. D Lloyd

Would there be any interest in a club trip?

Defenitely interested Dai. I will probably be going to most home games during the qualifiers and have discussed the posssibility of an away trip with some of the lads already, although the beer prices! in most of them are ridicilous therefore, I will probably arrange a trip to Belgium, but it is the last qualifier and not until 2012 I think. Did look at flights to Montenegro recently but very expensive

Some History
[1930] 1930 November. Dolgellau FC beat Aberdovery 6-5 in the Cambrian Coast Amateur League. Weather was a strong factor in the result with driving rain and slippery conditions. The return fixture two weeks later saw Dolgellau beaten 10-2, with conditions again wet and slippery. Sandwiched between these games was a 2-1 defeat at Machynlleth. Dolgellau`s team then was (5-3-2); T. Parry; E Evans, H.P. Harris; R.W Parry, Archie Jones, E. Brown; H.P. Evans, I Jones, R.L. Roberts, R.G. Lewis, Joe Roberts

Thank you for your interest. We have applied for a grant towards a pitch drainage system. A decision is expected later this month.

UPDATE - Grant offer received - 50% of what we had hoped for!! Need to either abandon the project, raise extra finance or do half the pitch!
Editor

The project cannot be abandoned, something has to be done as the fixture congestion is going to seriously hamper both teams, not just this season but every season.
Phil Humphreys
21 / 01 / 2010
Agree with you Phil, but sum in question is a large amount of money,Money the club hasn`t got at the present time, anyone got any ideas how we could raise xtra funds, this is when for the good of the club everyone involved with the club,be it player`s/coaches/parents,they need to come together and try get this project done Dai
D lloyd
21 / 01 / 2010
if the club is that desperate to do the pitch why doesnt the club not put all match fees or half from the mens, ladies and junior teams as ALL use the pitch, look at barmouth for example and wot they are doing to raise funds, golf days, sponsored walks, fun days etc cant be that hard, but then dol aafc has a tradition for being tight with funds!!!
pete
25 / 01 / 2010
What do you think the match fees goes towards??? THE FUNDS and running the club from day to day - we cannot put it aside for pitch improvements. `Tight with funds` has meant that we had the money to spend £34k (our own money) on a new stand. How many more clubs could have done that?? We have a small group who do a lot of work - contact a committee member and come to the next meeting if you have any brighter ideas to raise funds and are prepared to organise them!
Editor
26 / 01 / 2010
We are looking at the option of primary/secondary drainage on 2/3 and secondary on the third that Welsh Water worked on.

VAT is the killer at the moment! We are looking at an alternative scheme and have just enough money, but the VAT...aargh!!
Editor
22 / 02 / 2010
Can`t believe the date of my previous comment and we are STILL waiting for an answer from the Council/Trustees regarding the VAT!
Editor
03 / 05 / 2010
Hope we get a decision soon otherwise it will be too late to do it this season providing it is passed by the committee. The company were going to do it in May. I presume these dates will now have been taken
Roger
04 / 05 / 2010
The Clerk to the Trustees assured me that he would let me know well before tonight`s Council meeting (weeks!). It appears that we will now have to wait until tonight (hopefully!). From advice that I have received the decision that has taken so unbelievably long is an easy one, landowners pay for work AND re-claim the VAT!! I have not communicated with the prospective contractors at all, but hope that the work will be carried out during June, all being well.
Editor
04 / 05 / 2010
Still nothing definite from the Council. We need to place a contract very soon if we are to take advantage of the grant that we have accepted, otherwise no grant, no drainage, no improvement to the pitch. The committee will meet shortly to decide what best to do, in the meantime any (potential)rich benefactors out there??
Editor
07 / 05 / 2010
Heard that the possibility of council re-claiming VAT is slim. More of a chance of the council paying a contribution rather than VAT? What is the concensus of the supporters? Would you be prepared to spend most if not all the clubs money on pitch drainage?
(Roger)
08 / 05 / 2010
Also heard this, despite the advice I have received to the contrary! Have sent a letter to the Council asking for a contribution, need a response quickly however! Anyone else out there with some money???
Editor
09 / 05 / 2010
It looks like the council are now going to pay the VAT if we want to go ahead with the drainage system. For anyone who is interested the company that we would use is sportsturf.uk.com. Look it up on the internet and it will show you the procedures and clubs that they have used it on. We would be going for a combination of pitch drainage (primary) and sand banding (secondary). Pictures and videos on the website. What do you think? Whole procedure usually costs £30k. It would cost the club £6.5k.
Roger
12 / 05 / 2010
We had £7k following the work on the stand as a retrospective grant! We will not get another grant if we turn this one down. Drainage expert has tested soil and thinks this may be the only option. The area that has been drained (Water Board) does not work because the water is not getting to the drains!! (clay and compaction) No prospect of higher standard of soccer if we do nothing! Committee meeting in next week or so to make final decision however and not all in favour!
Editor
13 / 05 / 2010
There is no doubt the work needs to be done, will it work who knows,it is one of those situations where you wont know until we try, personally I think if we go down the road of doing the drainage we seriously need to think about getting someone in the know to look after the pitch and advice on further mtce req`d in future
Dai Lloyd
13 / 05 / 2010
Pitch drainage has been agreed by the committee last night, although we have not got a start date yet. Site visit to be arranged and a start date. Although the pitch is on a flood plain, hopefully the drainage will bring to an end a lot although we are aware not all of the cancellations and keeping an eagle eye on the weather forecast!! Work will take 4-5 days which includes re-seeding and fertilizing and requires minimum of 6 weeks to recover
Roger
27 / 05 / 2010
Must use the Forum to thank Mark Roberts for his very generous donation towards the drainage scheme. Very much appreciated by all at the club.
Editor
20 / 07 / 2010
Totally agree with the Editor. Mark, Thank you very much for your dontation. Very much appreciated. To keep you updated the drainage scheme is working! It has been pouring down here at times in the past week. The pitch has remained playable at most times. However some further work is required as the sand has settled and is uneven I have sent an e-mail to the contractors last night and hope for a response soon.
Roger
24 / 07 / 2010
Another 20 tonnes of sand is being delivered tomorrow (Wed) and the contractors are coming back to level some areas. Grass is now growing faster than I can cut it! Hopefully we will have a pitch to be proud of this season, with more games being available to all ages at the club on the pitch
Roger
27 / 07 / 2010
Company have been back today and used the extra sand to level the drains and the carrier drain on the stand side. Anticipated that the home game against Builth will be changed to away so that the pitch can have a couple more weeks to settle and grow.
Roger

I have been just a wee bit surprised not to see any recognition of the donation that I made to club funds, which I dedicated to the memory of Mr.W H Robert,s :Who had been my foster parent for almost 11 years, from 1940 to 1951. He had been a leading member of the original Dolgellau FC, for many years.Perhaps I am being naive in thinking that it might have been worthy of a mention. All I asked for was that he should be remembered; And my personal recognition of the debt which I owed to him. If I have missed any such mention. Then please accept my humble apology.

Multi purpose-All weather pitch
Seen as this was brought up in another topic,I do feel it`s high time we had one of the above in the town,It would not only benefit the Dolgellau Football but all other sporting activities in the town. Sooner or later someone is going to get hurt in that cage, some of the juniors parent`s voiced their concerns last year,I know it`s all we`ve got, now`s the time to push for something better,Blaenau,Port,Tywyn and Bala all have one. Where we start is open to suggestions??

05 / 11 / 2009
As stated under another topic, lobby the local/county Councillors! Another option is to start a fund, bearing in mind that a location will have to be identified, e.g., school hockey pitch or merely re-surfacing the cage??
Editor
05 / 11 / 2009
I think if it is to be of benefit to all it has to be a new facility as the cage is to small for adult training anyway, the hockey pitch would be an idea,I don`t think it get`s that much use???
Dai Lloyd

Loss of confidence
Going on last Saturday`s performance I think the lads have a lot to be confident about, yes we lost the game, but there where players missing and on another day could of turned that one round,If we could find a few more goals from elsewhere in the team we could be turning these games into victories, keep it going lads.
Dai Lloyd
03 / 11 / 2009

So far so good?
I agree that we`ve stepped up another level in our performances this season, particularly our team performance as opposed to individual performances. It`s just these silly mistakes costing us so far, By My reckoning we`ve dropped 12pts so far through individual errors, but, having said that, we`ll all make mistakes at various stages of the season but if we could just make less of them we`d be a lot higher than we are. I`ve got confidence in all my team-mates and am sure they will learn from their mistakes and come back stronger afterwards, I`m lucky that as a midfielder my mistakes don`t get punished like a defenders or a goalkeepers, but we`re all in this together and will hopefully have enough to AT LEAST avoid relegation, judging by our performances so far we`ve got nothing to fear but we must continue to work hard for each other and strive for improvement all over the field, thanks for all the support, means alot to all the players to see so many faces down there supporting us! Keep it coming, Thank You
Lee Riches
03 / 10 / 2009
I`ve wached nearly every game this season, and I have been quite impressed with the performances I must say! Some of last seasons players have really stepped up to the new, higher standard, and are really proving themselves as top class footballers, anyone agree? With a bit more luck, and a bit more concentration deep into the game, I have no doubt we`l still be there next season!
AP

MOM
I suggested this last season but nothing came of it, I`ve also had a chat with Roger this season about there being a player of the year award based on the most Man of the Match awards, there will still be a Player`s Player of the Year aswell, I also think there should be a Managers Player of the Year and a Most Improved Player Award
Lee Riches
Would it not be nice if for this season that Man of the Match was announced for each and every game and at the end of the season all these are added up for an award in the end of season party. It might possibly give another incentive to keep up the consistancy and the high work rate which has been evidence so far thus season. Keep up the good work lads and keep trying to play the right way.

boys a good fun way to do this is to have avoting system where at the end of every match points are awarded by each player on a small scrap of paper (best gets 3 points 2nd gets 2 points and 3rd gets 1 point) these can then be tallied up and at the end of the season you can have a bit of a night out with a screen and powerpoint in a presentation type evening...best player will get the most votes but the fact that there are loads of points up for grabs every week keeps it really interesting......

Thanks for your comments. Again, good to hear from you and hope all is well. Good idea, will be considered for next season.

Season so far
Just like to praise the lads for their performances so far this season, with a bit of luck either way we could easily be 6 points better off, well done lads, plenty of people around who had already wrote you off before the season had kicked off. However things turn out at the end of season you`ve proved a few people wrong already C`mon Dol

Thanks for your comment Dai. It`s nice to see you and the other supporters down there on our home games. I know the lads appreciate it and it helps us no end. If we have already proved a few people wrong, lets hope it continues and we prove more people wrong. Thanks Roger

How about the Reserves? Juniors? Anything for the Home page?
